You have booked your baby photography session and it is time to start planning outfits! The following is a guide to help you choose six month baby photo outfits.
Six month baby photo sessions are all about capturing the new things your baby can do. The gummy smiles, first teeth, baby giggles, chubby thighs, tummy time and eating the toes. It is a time for your baby to show off all of their new baby skills.
Formal clothing that is scratchy, uncomfortable or requires adjustment as baby moves is not ideal. Instead look for outfits that are simple and comfortable for baby.
Accessories like tights and shoes are not necessary as baby is not yet walking and we want to see as much of those cute little arms, legs and feet as we can.
Just a diaper or snap front body suit are also adorable looks at this age.
Wearing all light colored clothing results in light airy photos and a softer overall look.
White, cream, grey, oatmeal, soft pink and pale blue are all great options.
Some texture or a subtle pattern are great, but avoid bold patterns that distract attention from your beautiful baby.
Rompers, bubbles and overalls are all great outfit options for six month baby photos. They photograph well and allow baby to play comfortably. They also stay put without a lot of adjustment ensuring we don’t miss an adorable moment or annoy baby having to constantly tuck and tug their clothes as they move around.
My studio wardrobe includes baby basics such as rompers and overalls in sizes 3-18 months.
If you are shopping for on outfit these are some great options for classic pieces:

At six month baby photo sessions we typically have a window of about 30 minutes between naps and feedings that baby is happy and looking to play.
We want to make the most of this time and not frustrate baby with too many outfit changes. 1-2 outfits along with some pictures in just a diaper between outfits is typically a sweet spot in terms of adding some variety to your session and while keeping baby happy.
Lighter neutral colors work best in my all-white studio. I recommend avoiding blue denim as well as black.
For dads, a light weight neutral color shirt and any lighter color pant ( grey, tan, olive, etc.) works well.
For moms, long dresses photograph beautifully. My studio wardrobe includes dresses in a variety of sizes and styles. If you are not a dress person, white or pale blue jeans and a light colored top also photograph well.
I hope you have found this information helpful as you select outfits for your baby’s six month photos.
